From a question
Research Question 1 – Structured multidisciplinary Heart Team evaluation vs single-clinician/unstructured evaluation No direct evidence. Existing recent systematic review up to date as of July 2023. “PICO 1 seems like it’s unnecessary to relitigate and I will try to get them to reconsider that one”. No demo search generated. Search strategy: (Multidisciplinary team or Interdisciplinary Team) and [cardiac or cardiology or cardiac surgery or cardiothoracic surgery or coronary revascularization or mitral valve or aortic valve or tricuspid valve or coronary artery disease or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)]

Objective and notes from the draft
To identify studies comparing structured multidisciplinary Heart Team evaluation with single-clinician or unstructured evaluation for decisions about adults with heart disease, especially coronary revascularization (CABG or PCI) and aortic, mitral or tricuspid valve intervention.
- The search has two required blocks: multidisciplinary or Heart Team evaluation, and cardiac disease or procedures. This follows the searcher's draft strategy.
- The comparator (single-clinician or unstructured evaluation) and the outcomes are not searched as blocks. Authors rarely name the comparator consistently, and searching outcomes would lose sensitivity.
- The cardiac block is deliberately broad: Heart Diseases is exploded, and the bare words cardiac and coronary are searched, because the question includes 'cardiac or cardiology'. If the yield is too high, the searcher could narrow the block to the revascularization and valve headings and terms.
- Percutaneous coronary intervention and coronary bypass are retrieved through their headings and the word coronary. The bare abbreviation PCI was left out because it also means prophylactic cranial irradiation, which appears in oncology multidisciplinary team records.
- The bare word transcatheter was left out because it would bring in transcatheter arterial chemoembolization in liver tumour boards. Only valve-specific transcatheter phrases are used.
- MDT is an abbreviation with other meanings, for example multidrug therapy. It is kept for sensitivity because it is combined with the cardiac block; the searcher can drop it if it adds noise.
- Interprofessional Relations was not used as a heading: it mainly covers relationships between professions (for example nurse-physician relations) rather than structured team evaluation.
- An existing systematic review is reported to be current to July 2023. The searcher may want to compare its included studies with this search's results to check sensitivity.
