Objective and notes from the draft

To identify studies of transcatheter aortic valve replacement or implantation (TAVR/TAVI) that report on the vascular access route used: transfemoral, or the alternative routes subclavian/axillary, carotid, or transcaval.

  • The question lists search terms rather than a formal question; I assumed the review concerns TAVR access routes (transfemoral and the alternative subclavian/axillary, carotid and transcaval routes) and combined the two term groups with AND.
  • The bare words carotid, axillary, subclavian, cava and caval were kept because the searcher named them; carotid in particular will also find TAVR studies that only mention carotid disease or stroke, so expect some screening noise.
  • I added umbrella phrases (alternative access, non-femoral, non-transfemoral, access route*) for sensitivity; remove them if only the named routes are wanted.
  • Transapical and direct aortic (transaortic) access were not named by the searcher and were left out; add transapical and transaortic as text words if those routes are in scope.
  • The access-artery MeSH headings are not restricted to major topic because they are usually assigned as minor headings on TAVR records.
